I came across this cover on Ms. Tracy's YouTube channel and I just had to buy it here. An absolutely stunning and haunting rendition of this classic song! The new arrangements really make it feel like a whole new song. I love it almost as much as the Bauhaus original.
Uncle Brains
A masterful rendition of Bauhaus's classic vampire anthem. Blood-thirsty, elegant, decadent... this song hasn't lost its edge even after more than three decades.

about
BELA LUGOSI’S DEAD (Undead is Forever)
An exquisite new cinematic interpretation of the Bauhaus classic "Bela Lugosi's Dead" from David J, one of the legendary band’s founding members, with signature post-classical piano from noir chanteuse Jill Tracy.
Featuring an excerpt from Lord Byron’s chilling vampire poem, 'The Giaour'
But first, on earth as Vampire sent,
Thy corpse shall from its tomb be rent:
Then ghastly haunt thy native place,
And suck the blood of all thy race;
There from thy daughter, sister, wife,
At midnight drain the stream of life;
Yet loathe the banquet which perforce
Must feed thy livid living corpse:
Thy victims ere they yet expire
Shall know the demon for their sire
As cursing thee, thou cursing them,
Thy flowers are withered on the stem.
With Ysanne Spevack on eerie antique autoharp, banshee violin, Kenny Annis on seismic rumbling contrabass and Randy Odell on ghost whisperer drums, this dark melancholic exploration was recorded live by candlelight in a single take.
lyrics
Bela Lugosi’s Dead
White on white
Translucent
Black cape's back on the rack
Bela Lugosi is dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi is dead
Undead undead undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time's dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom
Alone in a darkened room
The count
Bela Lugosi is dead
Undead undead
Undead undead undead
And undead is forever
Undead is forever
Undead is forever and ever and ever and ever and ever . . .
Poor Bela
Bela’s undead
Poor Bela
Bela’s undead
Poor Bela
Bela’s undead
Poor Bela
Bela’s undead
And Bela Lugosi sleeps with Sister Morphine
Bela Lugosi sleeps with Sister Morphine
Bela Lugosi sleeps with Sister Morphine
Bela Lugosi sleeps

I bought the 12 inch single for Bela Lugosi’s Dead at Fred’s records in St. John’s, Newfoundland in the eighties and it remained a treasured item in my collection until it was lost, left behind, stolen, loaned out, whatever. I accepted that that item was lost to time and likely irreplaceable. Hence my utter shock to see that I will once again hear this evocative masterwork on vinyl along with an extra three tracks. I recall Boys was included on the B-side of that long list single. Thank you! skritti

Ahhh… the universal sound of 1980s misfit youth, still keeping us company after all these years. Fantastic versions here. Now, will he still rock the miniskirt during encores? marc_ian
